Synopsis

The texts published in this volume correspond to the main writings of Rodrigo de Vivero (Mexico, 1564 - Tecamachalco, 1636), a Creole in the service of Philip II, Philip III and Philip IV, written on an uncertain date in the first third of the 17th century, as a result of a stay of eleven months in Japan (from September 1609 to August 1610) after the shipwreck of the galleon that was transporting him from Manila to Acapulco. Among the writings are a ‘report’ on the Kingdom of Japan and a varied collection of ‘advice and projects’ whose aim was to improve the government of the Spanish Monarchy in the Indies.
