This book features, as a central discussion, the writing of women in Portuguese convents during Modern Age, focussing on two manuscripts by 17th-century Poor Clares: the Tratado da fundação do Convento de Jesus de Setúbal, by Leonor de São João, and the Notícia da fundação do Convento da Madre de Deus de Lisboa, attributed to Maria do Sacramento. The aim is understanding which models served as references for the nuns who undertook these endeavours, but without overlooking the contexts and particular interests that were present at the time of writing or updating the texts
