Don García de Silva y Figueroa was an educated man, having studied at Salamanca. Like a modern traveller, he thoroughly prepared his journey to Persia by consulting numerous works on history and geography. Being a compulsive diarist, he wrote dozens of letters, as well as a voluminous travel account, during his long eastern journey, with stopovers in Goa, Muscat and Hormuz, and the unfinished journey back to Europe.
The first two volumes of the critical edition of Comentários provide an accurate transcription of the autograph manuscript, kept in Madrid, at the National Library of Spain.
