This book is the result of the project ‘Portugal e o Sul de Marrocos: contactos e confrontos (séculos XV XVIII)’, funded by FCT - Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. A transdisciplinary perspective was adopted, involving a team of historians, archaeologists, architects and history of art specialists. The following priority areas were defined: research, inventory, study and dissemination of the subsisting heritage related to this historical process and its different components, including written, iconographic and cartographic sources, as well as the architectural and archaeological legacy.
