Diálogos ou Colóquios
Keywords:
Francisco de Morais, Manuscritos, DiálogosSynopsis
Critical edition of Francisco de Morais’ dialogues, based on manuscripts that convey a version prior to the action of the inquisitorial censorship that the work was submitted to, and that marked all its subsequent printed tradition. The three edited dialogues or colloquia present debates that oppose 1) a Nobleman and a Squire; 2) a Doctor and a Knight and 3) a Pander and Hostler. The situations presented in these dialogues are quite different, although they coincide in the fact that they convey pictures of sixteenth-century life and debate important social and political issues of the time. The edition is preceded by an introduction that considers the work in its various aspects (from the characteristics of the existing testimonies to its content and to the manipulations of censorship) and reflects on its various aspects and complexity.
