Synopsis

This eBook brings together the contributions presented at the International Congress On the Rise of Desire: Julião Sarmento (1948–2021), which took place at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon (FBAUL), from November 4 to 6, 2021. The event was the result of a joint organization by the National Museum of Contemporary Art (MNAC), FBAUL through the Centre for Fine Arts Studies and Research (CIEBA), and the Art History Institute, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa – School of Social Sciences and Humanities (IHA-NOVA FCSH). Reflecting the diversity of the contributions gathered, this publication is structured into three sections: (I) tributes, testimonies, and statements; (II) essays and studies; and (III) selected communications.
