The ambition of this volume is to contribute to the affirmation of the interest of studying heraldry in the field of History in particular and, more generally, in other social and human sciences.
We believe that research into heraldry has so far proved to be little rooted in Portuguese university institutions. We believe, however, that the study of the subject can provide important contributions to an
enrich the perspective, in many ways. This volume therefore aims to fill a gap in the Portuguese scientific panorama, in order to pave the way for future studies in this specific area.
