Synopsis

The book now available to the public is organized into six sections - The faces of construction: wage earners, masters and others; Supply of raw materials for construction; Financing construction work; Construction and reconstruction in the urban space; Military buildings; Religious buildings - which seek to organize the texts in a coherent way, in a structure that is a proposal that also aims to bear in mind the complexity of some themes, the crossing of diverse documentary typologies and, at the same time, to value the different methodologies and research perspectives developed by the authors. The first three sections focus on the structural elements of medieval construction: labor, raw materials and financing. While the fourth section allows for a reflection on the vicissitudes of the rhythms and dynamics of construction/reconstruction so present in the Middle Ages, the last two focus on the types of building with the greatest visual and symbolic impact on the medieval city: military buildings and religious buildings.
