Synopsis

In the Middle Ages, the representation of natural beings, both textual and figurative, was generally characterized by a symbolic-algorical component. Therefore, the critical observation and reading of works produced by medieval authors implies, for contemporary researchers, a necessary study and knowledge of the symbologies used at the time, in order to provide a more complete and effective understanding of the texts and images that the Middle Ages bequeathed to us.
