Espaços e poderes na Europa Urbana Medieval

This publication brings together 28 articles produced by 34 researchers from Portugal, Spain, France and Germany, covering a broad chronology that stretches from late antiquity to the dawn of the 16th century, including not only different Christian political spaces but also those with an Islamic presence, such as Al-Andalus and the Nazari kingdom of Granada. This allows for diachronic perspectives and the possibility of making fruitful comparisons. The scope of the theme proposed for the second edition of the Days, the articulation between the powers present in the medieval city and their relationship with the urban space as a place of action and representation, was extremely conducive to interdisciplinarity, manifesting itself in fruitful debates between historians, archaeologists, specialists in archives, paleography and heraldry, as well as art historians. As a result, the sources of information that underpin the works published here are very diverse - written documents, heraldry, material remains, iconography, iconology, cartography, among others - contributing not only to the richness of the approaches taken, but also giving the reader the chance to see a wealth of illustrative material that is little known or even unpublished.
