Sinopse

As histórias da arte da performance portuguesa, categoria artística que começou a ser assim nomeada a partir das décadas de 1960-1970, encontram-se em processo de construção e só recentemente têm vindo a ser inscritas na História da Arte. Para além de contributos teóricos fragmentários e focados essencialmente no percurso de artistas singulares que, de modo geral, acabaram por ser mais conhecidos pelas suas práticas artísticas menos performáticas (poesia, pintura, escultura), estas “histórias em processo” têm-se vindo a construir e a ganhar visibilidade, quer por via de exposições retrospetivas que têm apresentado alguns artistas e registos deste género artístico, quer por via de um retomado interesse por parte de novas gerações de artistas, performers, curadores e de investigadores.
Este livro propõe-se apresentar uma aproximação às histórias da arte da performance portuguesa, elas próprias no seu caráter “performativas” e “especulativas”, compondo uma leitura aproximada sobre os seus ciclos na História, as suas múltiplas e híbridas ontologias e as relações imbrincadas e hibridismos entre a arte da performance e a performatividade social dos portugueses.

Cláudia Guerra Madeira (1972) is an associate professor with agreggation at Communication Sciences Department and permanent researcher at ICNOVA at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities of the New University of Lisbon. She is Head of the Performance and Cognition Research Group at ICNOVA, being co-responsible by the Performance Art & Performativity in the Arts cluster. She also collaborates with the Center for Theatre Studies (CET/FLUL) as a researcher in the Theatre and Image Research Group and the project PERPHOTO Performing the Gaze: Crossings between Photography and Theatre in Portuguese and International Context (PTDC/ ART PER/31693/2017). Cláudia has completed a postdoctoral programme, Arte Social. Arte Performativa? (Social Art. Performative Art?) (2009-12) and holds a PhD in Sociology on Hibridismo nas Artes Performativas em Portugal (Hybridity in Performative Arts in Portugal) (2007), from the Institute of Social Sciences of the University of Lisbon. In her PHD thesis, she developed an in-depth analysis on new Portuguese dance and theatre, dedicating a chapter to the history of Portuguese performance art. In addition to several nacional and international articles on new forms of hybridism and performativity in the arts (Performance Research, Museum Management and Curatorship, Theatre, Dance and Performance Training, Sala Preta, Sinais de Cena, Colóquio Letras, Media & Jornalismo), she is the author of books like Performance Art in Portugal, (Routledge, 2023), Arte da Performance, made in Portugal (Performance Art, made in Portugal (ICNOVA 2020), Híbrido. Do Mito ao Paradigma Invasor (Hybrid. From Myth to Invasive Paradigm) (Mundos Sociais, 2010) and Novos Notáveis: os Programadores Culturais (New Dignitaries: The Cultural Programmers) (Celta, 2002). She is the Head of the Master degree of Performance Arts NOVA FCSH and teaches degree and master's courses in Performing Arts and Communication and the Arts at the Department of Communication Sciences, and also in the Master course’s of Women Gender at NOVA/FCSH. Furthermore, she was the Scientific Coordinator of the International Symposium, "Portuguese Performance art: 2 cycles for 1 archive?" at the Berardo Collection Museum, 20-22 July 2016. She has also organized several conferences and scientific meetings for academic and non-academic audiences; as well as participating in the creation and dramaturgy of plays, curating theater photography exhibitions and cinema cycles.
